What is a hora?

A hora is one twelfth of the daytime or night, so about an hour. Each hora is ruled by a planet in the Chaldean order: Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, and then it repeats. The first hora after sunrise always belongs to the weekday's lord, which is how the weekdays got their names.

Which hora for what

  • Sun: government work, meeting seniors, health routines
  • Moon: travel, family, anything to do with water or the public
  • Mars: sports, property, surgery, hard physical work
  • Mercury: paperwork, writing, study, trade and calls
  • Jupiter: puja, learning, advice, money matters, weddings
  • Venus: buying clothes or jewellery, art, romance, parties
  • Saturn: labour, repairs, old pending work. Avoid for new starts
