Pitra Dosha Calculator

Check your kundli for Pitra (Pitru) dosha. We test each classical indicator around the Sun and the 9th house and show you exactly which ones hit, if any.

How it works

The 9th house stands for father, ancestors, dharma and luck, and the Sun is the natural significator of the father. Pitra dosha is read when these are touched by Rahu, Ketu or Saturn. We check eight indicators:

  • Sun with Rahu (also called grahan yoga) and Rahu in the 9th, the two strong ones.
  • Sun with Ketu, Sun with Saturn, Ketu or Saturn in the 9th.
  • The 9th lord sitting with, or aspected by, Saturn, Rahu or Ketu.
  • The 9th lord placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th house.

A strong indicator counts 2 points, the others 1. Two or more points means present, one means mild, zero means none. Aspects follow Parashari rules (Saturn 3rd/7th/10th, Rahu and Ketu 5th/7th/9th). Houses are whole signs from the lagna, so a correct birth time matters.

Pitra dosha is about respect and remembrance, not fear. Traditionally people answer it with shraddh in Pitru Paksha, feeding those in need and caring for elders.
