Rahu is a shadow planet, the point where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's path going north. It has no body, but in Vedic astrology it's treated as a planet of obsession, ambition, foreign things, technology, illusion and sudden rise. Its sign and house show where you feel driven and never fully satisfied.

Vedic vs Western Rahu sign

Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, tied to the stars. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, tied to the seasons. The gap between them is the ayanamsa, about 24 degrees today. That's why many people find their Vedic Rahu sign is one sign before their Western one. We show both so you can compare.

How long Rahu stays in a sign

Rahu moves backwards through the zodiac and spends about 18 months in each sign. Ketu is always in the opposite sign. Because it moves slowly, the date alone gives the sign, but the house needs a birth time.
