Get your full Ashtakavarga: bindu points for each planet in every sign (BAV) and the combined Sarvashtakavarga (SAV), the classic way to judge sign strength and transits.

How Ashtakavarga works

For each of the seven planets, BPHS lists the houses, counted from each of eight reference points (the seven planets and the lagna), that receive a benefic point or bindu. Adding these up gives each planet's Bhinnashtakavarga: 0 to 8 bindus per sign. The totals are fixed: Sun 48, Moon 49, Mars 39, Mercury 54, Jupiter 56, Venus 52, Saturn 39. Adding all seven gives the Sarvashtakavarga, which always totals 337.

In the SAV, a sign with 28 or more bindus is strong and gives good results for the house it rules and for planets transiting it. Below 25 asks for care. In a planet's BAV, 4 or more bindus in the sign it's transiting is favourable.

Questions people ask

What is a good SAV score?+

28 or more bindus in a sign is good, 30+ is very good, below 25 is weak.

Why is the total always 337?+

The BPHS tables give each planet a fixed number of bindus. They add up to 337 in every chart.

How is Ashtakavarga used for transits?+

A planet transiting a sign where it has 4+ bindus in its own BAV, or where SAV is 28+, tends to give good results.

Do I need a birth time?+

Yes, the lagna is one of the eight reference points and decides the house order.
